I’m incredibly overweight, and would like to lose weight. How should I go about doing so?
Diabetes Guidelines 2008 Add comments
Okay, here I go:
I have a high BMI, so it’s not a "thinking" I’m fat, it’s "Knowing" I’m fat. I know diet and excercise are the key components of losing weight, but I need a plan that fits with my schooling, work, and band. I’m just tired of being fat. Could someone give me some general guidelines or suggestions as to what I should do, please? I’ve already cut out drinking pop, and I’m hoping it helps.
I don’t care about fitting in a size 2 (which I know will never realistically happen, because I’m genetically big boned), I just want to be healthy. I want to die of suffocation from laughing, exhaustion from exploring the world, anything, anything but diabetes, heart disease, or, to stop myself before I get there, OBESITY. And I want my kids to have a healthy living style so they don’t have to worry about this when they’re 15.
Thank you all for your help.
<33 Rachel
Start small and start slow. If you try to do it all you will get discouraged! Yes, cutting out pop will help! When that becomes easy for you and your not tempted by it anymore, cut out sugar or cut out fast food, then stop eating after 7 p.m. Drink lots of water! Cut up a sandwich size bag of veggies (pepper, celery, carrots, cucumbers), take them with you throughout your day. You can easily get in your veggies each day by doing that. Carry apples or oranges or some fruit for when you have a sweet tooth. The cravings do go away, it just takes time and patience.
Exercise! If all you have time for is a 15 minute walk, then take it. If it’s in the morning or middle of the day or evening, just go out and walk as fast as you can handle and don’t back down unless your dying, then slow down until you get your breath, then speed up again.
Exercise and eating well are the best ways to lose weight and to do it the healthy way. The other thing to remember is that it takes your body time. It needs to know your serious! If you are not doing these things consistently, then your body will not lose weight. Give yourself 1 day a month to indulge in one thing sweet or one treat you’ve been holding out on.
Think of it as a new way of life…this is how your going to live, no going back:) Good Luck!

1) Eat more steam food, lean meat, lean protein, vegies and fruits
2) Cut out the junk food, soda drinks and snacks. Get rid of the junk food from the cupboards! Eat cashew / almond nuts instead.
3) drink plenty of water / green tea
4) Exercise – look at combining weights and cardio into your program. you can look at alternating upper and lower body exercises without rest, say bicep curls, then lunges , rest and repeat. With cardio, try sprinting 100m, jog 100m and repeat.
Here’s a review link to a program

For flatter stomachs, read this blog on the truth about six pack abs -

5) Have 5-6 healthy meals a day(1 plate portions) to keep your body satisfied
6) if you have cravings drink water or eat fruits
here’s an article to a healthy diet

7) have an action plan for long term goals, start off with small goals and increase it gradually over time. And you will see in your size drop.
Good luck

count calories, and drink nothing but water, if your addicted to caffeine it will be hard, so limit your caffeine intake and only have one 16oz can a day. Exercise daily, for no more then an hour and you’ll be on your way. I know it’s easier said then done, but if your really serious about losing the weight you can do it. Maybe you could join a fitness center for motivation. Counting calories works. I done this for 2 months and I had lost 30 pounds. My sister done this same thing and in 6 months she went from a weight of 270 to 180.

Okay first of all it’s great that you want to be just a healthly weight and not annorexic!
Here are some tips for you:
Take up a fun exersise that you will stick with(like join a sports team, take up a fun dance class,go horse riding, etc).
Eat a wide range of healthy food group such as low fat protein, wholewheat carbohydrates, lots of fruit and vegetables.
Eat little and often, around 5 meals a day.
For example
Breakfast of oatmeal and berries
Mid Morning a small snack of dried apricots
Lunch A large salad and protein
Mid Afternoon A yoghurt or a piece of fruit
Evening A Jacket potatoe and Salad
Drink 2 literes of water a day and NO fizzy drinks(if you don’t like plain water try fizzy water or flavoured water)
Chew sugar free gum to suppress your appetite
Have a ‘treat day’…for example on Sunday you can have a Pizza or something(don’t have all junk just some)
Good Luck!

Exercise has done more for me than anything else. If you are crunched for time, you can sneak in a little bit of exercise by parking farther from where you need to go so you have to walk farther. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk short distances instead of drive. Any exercise is better than none.
It’s easy to get bored with exercise so try new things. If you like to play sports that counts as exercise too. I’ve met people who think that exercise only "counts" if it’s in a gym on equipment and that’s not true at all. If you keep up with it, you will see improvements in how you look and how you feel. That’s what keeps me motivated. Some days I just feel better about myself because I’ve forced myself to do something instead of just letting myself go. I’m fit, but I don’t really like to exercise. I have to find ways to stay motivated and keep doing it.
Of course, diet is also important. Cut out junk food, or find healthier alternative (pretzels instead potato chips for example), don’t eat out that often, and avoid pre-made convenience foods as they are usually loaded with fat, salt and sugar. The occasional treat is OK. It you get too strict, you have a stronger chance of failing. Don’t beat yourself up if you do slip up once in a while. Eat lots of fruits and veggies and drink lots of water. Don’t starve yourself either.
You seem to have a good attitude and good motivation so you should do well. Remember slow and steady and it’s a lifestyle change not a diet. Good luck!
