Can a person with type 2 diabetes donate blood? If they can, should they?

I only ask because when I went to make my six monthly blood donation, the technician refused to allow me to donate as I am type 2. Never was a problem before just wondering if guidelines have changed.

If diabetes is in control, I can’t see where there is any problem.
Having diabetes does not automatically exclude you from donating blood. The American Red Cross states that people with diabetes may donate blood if they meet the following guidelines:
They have not had an initial dosage of insulin or change of insulin dose in at least two weeks.
They have not received an injection of bovine (beef) insulin made from cattle from the United Kingdom since 1980.
Oral medications for type 2 diabetes don’t disqualify you from blood donation eligibility. It is suggested that people with diabetes wait 8 weeks (or 56 days) between whole blood donations. Other blood donation eligibility guidelines may apply, depending on your medical history.
And the reason to donate should be that you get paid for it. The Red Cross makes a fortune off of donated blood. So why shoud you not get a little of that.?

Ya you can donate blood. the only guideline is that, those people taking insulin(which is you are not taking) and uncontrolled sugar level donor can not donate. There may be you told them that you have higher sugar level? And other thing is that blood donation is even beneficial for every one even in your condition. You should go for it.
